Why I started Abrielder
My grandmother lives with lung cancer. A while ago she developed pneumonia, and for a while we weren't sure she would pull through. Alhamdulillah, she did, thanks to great doctors and a strong support system at home. Today she lives her daily life and uses the bathroom on her own.
Helping her through that time taught our family something no one tells you in advance: being able to use your own bathroom, without calling for help, is one of the biggest parts of feeling like yourself at home. It's also where small, ordinary things go wrong, like a slippery floor, a low seat, or nothing solid to hold when standing up.
Abrielder exists for families in that position. We make a short list of well-built supports, and we explain plainly how to choose them, fit them and set them up, because that's the information we wished we'd had.
What we make
Our product today is the Abrielder Toilet Safety Rail (Amazon ASIN B0FJFM5K8H): an aluminium frame with two light grey padded armrests that adjust in 7 heights, four suction-cup feet and no drilling. It is sold on Amazon.com in the United States and shipped by Amazon. A bed rail is in development; it is not for sale, and we won't sell it until it meets the US adult portable bed rail standard, 16 CFR 1270.
Who writes the guides
The guides are written by Arman Markar, founder of Abrielder, from the point of view of a family member helping an older relative at home. I'm not a doctor or a therapist, so the guides are general home safety information, not medical advice. For specific needs, talk with a doctor or an occupational therapist.
How we write
- Facts we can back up. Product measurements come from the manufacturer's specification and our own product listing. If we can't verify a number, we leave it out.
- No health claims. We describe what a product does, not what it treats or cures.
- Sources linked. Safety standards are linked to the official text, such as the eCFR and the Federal Register.
- Dated. Every guide shows when it was published and last updated.
